From the remarks of Sr. Mary Leonora Wilson, Provincial Superior:

Once again we gather to celebrate one of the most beautiful events of religious life: Jubilee, the celebration of God’s love and fidelity to our sisters in the course of 25 years, 50 years! It’s a celebration of personal salvation history, of reciprocal spousal love, of community support. A deep sense of gratitude and joy pervades this entire day.

My first thought when I sat down to put together these few lines were the words of the Psalmist: “You are my inheritance, O Lord!” For who is a religious? – someone who belongs entirely to the Lord, with an undivided heart. In these days the liturgy has had us focus our attention on the Kingdom of God, the treasure in the field, the pearl of great price – what more precious treasure than the Lord Himself!

Today’s readings kept bringing us back to this very theme: “In my God is the joy of my soul; he has clothed me like a bride…,” “Called me to bring the news of the boundless riches of Christ,” to “receive a hundred times more now in this present age… and eternal life in the age to come.” Certainly, this causes our jubilarians to exclaim with St. Paul and Blessed James Alberione: “How immeasurably rich He is in grace!”

Sr. Barbara, Sr. Mary Domenica, Sr. Sharon Anne, I remember your first profession as if it were yesterday. How incredibly fast the time has gone! 50 years of discipleship, fidelity and love in which each of you has been asked to drink the chalice with Christ more than once and in different ways, participating generously in His passion and ultimately in His joy. You have been faithful with Him through light and darkness, sickness and health, pain and happiness. Your “YES” has gone through fire and come out gold. Thank you for the inspiration and the encouragement you give to all of us. Your co-novice, Sr. Susan Helen, is celebrating with you her 50th jubilee today in the beatitude of heaven.

Sr. Maria Grace, Sr. Nancy Michael, 25 silver years shine radiant and promising. Jesus has proven His fidelity to you both over and over again, leading you closer to His heart in intimacy with Him and letting you experience that hundredfold in His very own mission of evangelization. Your energy and creativity is imbued with the grace of His Spirit, may He continue to be your All and Everything for the rest of your lives.

Religious life is a call to follow Christ more closely in His poverty, in His obedience, in His giving of self. It is a call to holiness, but a holiness that shines through the woundedness and the fragility of our humanity, so that it is clear to everyone, with no shadow of a doubt, that Jesus is the source of all our good, the source of all our joy, the source of all our effectiveness. Thus we, too, shout out with you, our jubilarians: “How immeasurably rich He is in grace!”

All of us here today thank you, love you, rejoice with you. We carry you in our hearts. God bless you.
