Holy Family Boston Group Celebrates Mother’s Day Mass

Families from Boston that are learning a little more about the Holy Family Institute and the Pauline Family came together for a Mass at the Daughters of St. Paul Convent to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Mass concelebrants were Fr. Michael Harrington and Fr. Edward Riley of the Institute of Jesus the Priest.

At the beginning of the Mass, Fr. Harrington challenged those present to listen carefully to the readings and pick out what word they might consider as the main theme of the day. During his homily Fr. Harrington then invited a few of the children to share what word stood out and unanimously they cried out, love!

The 2nd Reading and Gospel for the Mass were:

1 Jn 4:7-10

Jn 15:9-17

In just these two readings, the word love is used 19 times.

After the homily, while the beautiful Marian hymn Gentle Woman was being sung, Gleisiany Mihoc and her daughter, Maria-Helena crowned the statue of Our Lady and the baby Jesus.

At the conclusion of the Mass, in order to honor our Blessed Mother and to appreciate all the mother’s present, biological and spiritual, we invited all the women, young and old, to take a Rose and walk into the sanctuary and place it in a vase before Our Lady. It was a beautiful token of our love for Mary. It was particularly beautiful and moving to see the elderly Daughters of St. Paul walk forward with a Rose. One of them, Sr. Mary Augusta, is 99 years old and has been a professed Religious for 75 years.
