Holy Family Institute Northeast/ Boston Retreat

On labor day weekend, Fr. Michael Harrington and Fr. Edward Riley both of the Jesus Priest Institute led a Holy Family Retreat for families from Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Although all the families at the retreat currently live in the Northeast part of the USA, the event was truly international as 6 families originated from Brazil, 6 from Columbia, 1 from China along with 1 dad from India, 1 dad from Romania, 1 mom from Slovakia, 1 Retreat leader from Guatemala, 1 retreat leader from Puerto Rico, 6 Religious sisters from Vietnam, 1 Religious sister from Brazil, 1 Religious sister from Haiti and 1 Religious sister from Nicaragua.

The Family Retreat was held at My Father’s House Retreat Center in Moodus, CT. It was the prefect setting for a family retreat where families resided in individual or shared bungalows, where talks were given in Retreat Conference Rooms, where Adoration was held in the chapel and where processions and games were conducted on the large green lawns under the bright sunshine days and starlit nights.

Fr. Michael Harrington, Fr. Edward Riley and Sr. Marta Soza gave presentations to the adults on the theme of Discovering Jesus, the Way, Truth, and Life. While they were giving their talks, various programs were being led for the children. There was a program for children ages 14-17 being led by Leiri Ruiz. There was a program for children ages 11-13 being led by Colleen Donohoe. There was a program for children ages 8-10 being led by Christine Dufresne. And finally, there was a program for children ages 4-7 being led by Sarah Rasza. The children’s programs were also aided by a number of Religious Sisters and lay leaders. Fernando Dangond gave a beautiful personal witness of his faith especially in light of the journey his family has taken over the past few years as they accompany their daughter Christy who was diagnosed with cancer. Dave and Kate Fedak, Rob Jakub and Greg and Kim Burke also gave powerful witness about their life in the Holy Family Institute of the Pauline Family.

The retreat featured Mass each day, Eucharistic Adoration each day with Benediction for all ages, a Eucharistic Procession, a Candlelight Rosary Procession under the starry sky to a bonfire where we offered prayers to Jesus, the Light of the World and then toasted some S’mores. There was fun each day topped off with family outdoor games on Saturday afternoon. There was even a talent show and birthday celebration after dinner on Saturday night.

Thank you Jesus for having a great sense of humor! Truly though, Jesus was at work blessing the many families in countless ways. The retreat was all about building up the family and sharing with them our Pauline Charism.
