Sister Disciples of the Divine Master – Opening Day of Year of Consecrated Life

As declared by Pope Francis, on November 30th, 2014, we began to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life (YCL), which will conclude on the World Day of Consecrated Life, February 2, 2016. Consecrated life is a calling to live Jesus’ way , to follow Christ, and spread the Good News to the world. As stated by Pope Francis, “faithful discipleship is grace and love in action; it is the practice of sacrificial charity.”  As he called those who have consecrated their lives to give a joyful witness, Pope Francis hopes this year will express the “beauty and preciousness of this unique form”  of  discipleship in the Catholic Church.

Pope Francis calls all consecrated men and women to be courageous, to have a deep communion with God, and most importantly, to be joyful. Consecrated men and women are called to show the world the joy of serving the Lord, so that others may seek the joy they see in their faces.

Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life

O God, throughout the ages you have called
women and men to pursue lives of perfect
charity through the evangelical counsels of
poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this
Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks
for these courageous witnesses of Faith and
models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy
lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering
of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich
your Church by calling forth sons and daughters
who, having found the pearl of great
price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above
all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with you in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.
